What Are the Two Types of Strokes?A stroke is the third main causes of death in the United States A stroke is known as “the silent killer.” The stroke is called this because there are actually no symptoms before a stroke occurs. The symptoms that you experience are when a stroke is beginning. Before you realize what is actually going on, the stroke has either already occurred or is occurring. There are two major types of stroke: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Ischemic strokes may result from clogged arteries, a condition called atherosclerosis This type of stroke may affect the arteries within the brain or the arteries in the neck that carry blood to the brain. Ischemic strokes may also be caused by blood clots that form in the heart. Certain drugs and medical conditions can make your blood more likely to clot and raise your risk for ischemic stroke. Ischemic strokes may also be caused by blood clots that form in the heart. Ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel that supplies blood to the brain is blocked by a blood clot. Hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in a part of the brain becomes weak and bursts open, causing blood to leak into the brain. This is also known as a brain bleed, is more dangerous and can cause a major headache and also brings on death rather quickly. If you think you are having a hemorrhagic stroke do NOT take aspirin for the headache. |
