What Is Heart Palpations? An unusual heart beat that gets your attention and can happen at any time. Sometimes it may feel as though your heart is turning flip flops, or just about to beat out of your chest. This does however; scare you when this happens. Discuss these feeling and what your heart is doing with your doctor. At other times you are aware of what’s happening but people usually ignore them. Most palpations are not life threatening at this time. Usually anyone with palpations, have some type of heart arrhythmia; but are usually premature atrial perplexes. Life-threatening arrhythmias are usually seen in patients with underlying heart disease, however, it is especially important to identify what is causing palpitations in individuals who have underlying heart disease. The same thing holds true for patients with palpitations who also have significant risk factors for heart disease (family history, smoking history, high cholesterol, overweight, sedentary lifestyle).Any time a patient complains about these palpations your doctor should look into them right away. Even the smallest of palpations should be looked into by your doctor. A simple test called an ECG electrocardiogram is given while the patient is having palpations. So whether the funny little feelings that you are experiencing in your chest may not seem like much and they may not be anything at all, but it could also be the beginning of some type of heart disease. Do discuss this with your doctor or your health care provider. |
